4 Update
YOU TEACH ME! - I watched him stumble and catch himself at
the edge of the water. Quickly he looked around, worried that his
near fall had been seen as I diverted my gaze. Walking over along
the shore to where he was I extended my hand. The man of twenty-something
reached out and took it and my concerns mounted. Beneath my fingers
I could feel each individual bone and there was a gaunt look about
his face with eyes sunk deep into his head. His cheek bones pronounced
with the line of his jaw obvious. His clothes hung, draped off the
frame of his shoulders that not so long ago had been stout and solid
and healthy. I had seen this before in Africa in places where people
die. This would have been the look of someone in that very process...
except for one thing... this one definitely didn't have the right
eyes for dieing just yet.
We
exchanged the greetings of Fiji. "When?" I asked him. "26th!" he
grinned showing his teeth with a sparkle that matched his eyes.
"Did you get the message from Cindy?" "Eeo... vinaka" his movements
seemed animated as he responded in the affirmative with thanks.
"I will be there at the GALILEAN next week for some food!" With
that he turned, shouldered too much of the film equipment and began
climbing the steep embankment up toward the village that had never,
ever seen any movie. Tonight with this one's help they would see
the movie 'JESUS'.
I started to say something and then stopped, standing there for
a moment watching him go, not knowing what to do or what to say.
'He'll be alright', I convinced myself, thinking how long 4 more
days was going to be, especially when they are the last 4 days out
of 40 days and 40 nights with no food. Turning away I looked down
the shore along the jungled cliffs in the direction of a majestic
waterfalls and I whispered out loud to One I know, who created it
all; "Oh God honor the cry of a heart so determined to know You
more!".
WHY
PRAY? - Cindy tells me that there are around 700 of you now
who have taken the step of commitment to be registered as GALILEAN
Plank Holders - prayer partners with us here in the South Pacific!
NOTHING is more important than that!
It seems like a long time ago when I asked for prayer on behalf
of the man who had become our JESUS Film team leader last year.
He is the one who then walked away from it all in direct and open
rebellion against God earlier this year. A casualty in a serious
battle. Suddenly bitter, callous and openly living in sin. I wonder
how many people, how many times since then have brought him specifically
before the thrown of God?
As
I brought the message to a close this Sunday I remember seeing a
movement at the back of the church but my head was down and I had
started praying before registering anything more. It was a little
while before I looked up and there, at the center of the newly made
alter was the man so many of you have been praying for. The message
had certainly not been anything casual. It had been blunt, a message
on brokenness before God, humility, sorrow, confession, repentance!
I knelt down beside him and put my arm around his shoulders, they
were shaking... his breath coming in great sobs. My heart broke
for the real pain and scars that are always left in the wake of
embracing the lies of Satan. As I wept together with him there was
an overwhelming peace as I heard him confess to God and cry out
for the forgiveness that cost the Lord so very, very much to offer
him. Can I tell you today that our God reigns!. This one will still
have to reap the consequences of his sins here on earth, but don't
ask God to tell you about them... to Him they are gone forever!
When repentance is real, He says; "Your sins and your lawless deeds,
I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE!" This is the God who heals the broken hearted
and sets the captives free.
This is why we find ourselves in the South Pacific. Our message
to the people of these islands remains the same! It will never change!
It is the only answer that there is. His name is JESUS!
